The reality shows that dogs can be real heroes. They have an amazing ability to detect when someone is going through a critical situation and come to rescue. It doesn’t matter if it’s a human or an animal. This was demonstrated when one dog jumped into water to rescue a deer that was in the middle of the lake. Ralph Dorn, a retired Marine Corps pilot from Virginia, owns a Goldendoodle named Harley. They were on the shore of a lake near their house and suddenly Ralph could not find his dog anywhere.
Then he noticed that Harley was in the water and swam into the middle of the lake. But after taking a closer look, Ralph realized that Harley wasn’t alone and understood why the dog was in the water. In the middle of a lake there was a lovely deer struggling to get to the shore. Harley went to rescue the deer, and when he reached the stranded animal he started sending the fawn back to dry land. “I don’t know how the baby deer got there,” Ralph wrote on Facebook, “but Harley obviously went into the water without asking why.”
The two returned to the shore. Ralph said the deer’s mother came back for taking her baby. The owner was very proud of his heroic dog. Even after returning to land, Harley continued to protect the baby deer. “Harley didn’t want to leave the deer,” Ralph told People. “He kept interacting with the deer, licking him, taking care of him.” However, Harley and the deer continued to communicate.
The next morning, Ralph noticed Harley’s concern and looked out the front door to see a deer who saw Harley again. “The boy started wagging his tail, touched his nose, and sniffed each other, and Harley came home quietly with me,” Ralph wrote. They had a brief, touching reunion, as if the deer were to stop by to thank once again for saving Harley’s life. Then the deer left again with her mother. Harley’s story went viral, with Ralph’s Facebook post about the story being shared over 253,000 times.
Ralph says he’s glad this story has touched so many people, but Harley’s heroism didn’t surprise him. He says Harley is a service dog that has worked with the elderly and children. “We knew right away that he had such a kind heart even when he was a puppy,” Ralph told People. Such an inspiring story.
