It is always heartbreaking when a dog disappears, but it is important not to lose hope, sometimes they will come back to you when you least expect it. This is the case recently: a scared dog ran away, but returned home in the most fun and unexpected way. Mary Lynn from Greensville, South Carolina owns a dog named Rajah. But like many dogs, Raja is afraid of fireworks which led to a terrible situation recently, because the sound of the fireworks display caused her to escape.

“She was in the backyard with our other dog and our neighbour started shooting off fireworks and I knew she’d be scared,” Mary told SWNS. “I went to the backyard – and she was gone.” For the rest of the night, Mary and her husband Ryan searched for their missing dog nearby, contacted the shelter, and posted on social media. Hours passed without luck. But at 3 in the morning, they heard the doorbell… it was Rajah! Rajah stayed alone for more than 7 hours. This clever puppy not only found his way home, but also knew how to use the doorbell!

“I don’t even know how she knew how to do that, I’ve never shown her how,” Mary said. “She doesn’t go out in the front yard, except to the car, so she’s never seen us use the doorbell.” Fortunately, Ryan was still awake and opened the door there to let her in. It’s unclear what the dog was doing when she left, but Mary thinks she has experienced a great adventure. “She had thorns on her and seemed to have rolled in poop,” she told SWNS. “So, it seems like she had a great time.” They were thrilled to have her home. The video of the smart dog ringing the doorbell, captured on their Ring camera, has now gone viral after the owners posted it on Reddit.
